When CREW was looking to make its mark as an aggressive new ethics watchdog, the executive director Melanie Sloan recruited Naomi Seligman to put the organization and her thought leadership on the map as the leading voice targeting corruption in government.
Within two years, CREW’s executive director became the go-to source for action and analysis on every political scandal; the organization played a major role in bringing down such powerful figures as former Republican House Leader Tom DeLay, notorious lobbyist Jack Abramoff and congressional predator Mark Foley. Polling around the mid-term elections placed corruption above the war in Iraq as the voters’ greatest concern, with CREW driving a lot of the conversation.
